Maria Cristina Sta. Elena

Cristina, or “Teacher Tin” as fondly called by her students is a licensed professional music teacher, LPT who gained her Bachelor of Music degree, BM in Music Education, with Voice as her major instrument and Piano as her minor instrument in St. Paul University , Conservatory of Music where she also served as the President of the SPUM Glee Club for a couple of years. 


She is a composer, arranger, singer, a choir conductor, curriculum designer, and multi -instrumentalist who plays the piano, guitar, mandolin, ukulele, drums, violin, recorder and the ocarina instrument. She continues to collaborate with drummers and other instrumentalists and musicians abroad creating and performing original instrumental music. 


She taught as a Piano and Voice teacher in Yamaha School of Music and was also Lyric Music Institute’s Most Promising and Most Outstanding Teacher in 2002 and 2003. After which she flew abroad to teach music performance and general music classes for 16 years in various International schools in Saudi Arabia including the British International schools, American International school, Greek School, King Saud International school and the Multinational (Australian) school.



She was the pianist and rhythm guitarist at British International School’s Staff band for several years. After teaching as a Key Stage 1 and 2 Music teacher  in BISR , she was requested to teach as a piano, drums, voice, ukulele and guitar instrumental teacher in the whole school for both the Main British International school KSA and Salwa British International School, KSA.



She came back to the Philippines in 2018 and became the Music Coodinator for Primary and Secondary Individual Music Program at Nord Anglia British International School Manila, handling and managing Instrumental and Voice teachers in the music program. She organized recitals across the school for early years to secondary levels as well as music concerts for the PIP classes. (Primary Instrumental Program)



Apart from being a PIP and SIP music specialist) at Nord Anglia,  teaching piano classes to primary and secondary groups, she also taught music classes from Early Years, Key stage 1 to key stage 2 (Years 1-6) levels delivering music lessons from the schools curriculum collaborated with Juilliard music education. Cristina found this very inspiring and considers it as one of her great experiences as a professional musician and educator. 



One of her favourite experiences was training primary and secondary voice students who performed a repertoire of songs in Music festivals outside of the country. This was collaborated with other Nord Anglia British International schools in Asia and Juilliard Music Education. In addition, she also teaches music using Kodaly, Orff and Dalcroze method.



After this, she became the Director of Music in Lyric Institute of Music and Related Arts, managing and handling various music teachers from the school’s many branches as well as organizing music recitals for various Lyric Music schools and performing important admin and leadership jobs in the music institution. 



Currently, Cristina continues to compose and arrange music as well as continue with her jazz voice and jazz piano, drum  studies, online in the UK and US. She is currently enjoying to teach voice and other instruments in various music schools in the south area including Prelude de Musique. She is  impressed with PDEM’s piano curriculum and school management as well as its active connection with Rock school Philippines.
